The above photographed cat was found in one of the many Yu Kee shops. The particular shop is located in Chi Lok market, Tuen Mun. We resuced her on the 30th January 2009.

This pretty girl was never allowed to be out of the cage because the shop owner was afraid she would mess up the stock, so instead of catching mice, she had to ’scare’ them away all from the comforts of her cage. Not a very nice way to live!
She has lived in the cage since she was a kitten, and now she’s around 2 years old. When we rescued her she couldn’t jump but she is much happier with us and our cats.
This is the 2nd cat we’ve rescued from Yu Kee. The 1st cat has already been adopted. We have reported the incidences to the SPCA and AFCD and they only gave the shop owner a warning. Based on what we’ve been told, they have not taken any follow up action.
There are approximately 109 Yu Kee shops (http://www.yukee.com.hk) in Hong Kong and each of them has a cat who’s destiny is the same as this one. This is cruel… please make people aware of such animal cruelty. We request 109 Yu Kee shops to let us help desex n rehome all of their cats ASAP as we don't want HK people are blamed as ignorant n merciless, ALL LIVES ARE EQUAL, RESPECT LIFE, AGAINST ANIMAL CRUELTY. U REAP WHAT U SOW pls kindly advise Yu Kee of the effective n humane way to handle the mouse

Well done!
How did you resuce the cat? How did the bad shop owner say or respond?
Have you tried the Yu Kee in Tai Wai? Some years ago, they had one or two kittens which died. The lady staff were quite sad so instead of procuring more cats, they used some sort of device which emits cat sounds that they turn on at night to scare away the mice. I was told it works. I have passed by once or twice and haven’t noticed any cats inside the premises. Don’t know if they’re still using the machine. If you would like to make enquiries to recommend it to other shops, their number is 2606 7130. Speak to “Dai Ga Jeh” (Big Sister).
Sorry, but I did not rescue the kitten. I took it to the vet for them but it died later. My point is they have a machine that can be recommended to other shops. Try calling them. I’m sure they won’t mind telling you about it.
